Garkuwa is an academic and researcher that specializes in research on diabetes with special interest in cognitive changes associated with diabetes mellitus. Garkuwa is a doctor of philosophy (Ahmadu Bello University Zaria) and has attended national and international conferences, workshops and seminars. Garkuwa has also held few administrative positions in the University including beings the Dean, Deputy Dean, Head of Department, Registration Officer, Examination Officer, Advisor, and has been a member of committees such as Disciplinary, Guidance and Counselling, Research and Innovation, Sports Committees among others. Has published and is still publishing original research articles and reviews in his field.
