BIO SKETCH Prof dr Hadi Pratomo, MPH, Dr PH (Maternal and Newborn Health, Health Promotion, Community Empowerment and Policy advocate) Prof Pratomo is a lecturer at the FPH, Universitas Indonesia (UI) since 1976. He has a dr (MD) degree (1975) from UI and holds both MPH (1980) and Dr PH degree (1982) from the School of Public Health & Trop. Med, Tulane Univ, USA. He also took A Summer course on Information, Education & Communication (IEC) at the University of Chicago (1978). He was the Chairman of the Dept of Health Education & Behavioural Sciences at the Faculty of Public Health UI (FKMUI, 1987-1990). He was one of the founders of the Research Ethics Committee at FPH UI (2001). Prof Pratomo earned professorship from the UI since 1998 and became the secretary of the Ethics Committee of the Board of Professor at UI (DGB UI, 2004-2007), later on he was the Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the DGB UI (2007-2011). In 1998 he retired from UI at the age of 70 and currently as professor with extended contract with UI. In 1991 he attended an international training of Adolescent Reproductive Health with Dr Chandra Mouli (WHO Geneva, Adolescent health) then in 1992 he assisted the Karyadi General Hospital (Semarang) as WHO Collaborating Adolescent Health Services. In 1993 he served as one of the international trainers of the South East Asia training on adolescent health hosted by the RS Karyadi General Hospital as WHO Collaborating Centre and the training took place in Bali. In 1998-2000 Dr Pratomo was commissioned by WHO through the Director of Mother and Child Health of the Ministry of Health (MOH) to develop Adolescent Friendly Public Health Center (Puskesmas, PKPR ) Pasar Minggu. Later the Ministry of Health expanded this adolescent friendly services to Puskesmas Tebet, South Jakarta, Puskesmas Bogor Timur and one Puskesmas in Bandung City. In 2001-2003 Dr Pratomo served as consultant to Save The Children/ SC (Jakarta) to assist the Family Health Directorate of the MOH on the Save Newborn Life Project in Cirebon district in which all village midwives were trained on resuscitation of the newborn. Then in 2003-2005 he was part time consultant for SC Jakarta to assist the MOH to develop, test and implement community village midwife intervention to save newborn life in Garut District, West Java. In addition, he also helped the MOH to prepare National Plan of Newborn Survival. In 2008 he was a short time consultant on adolescent health in WHO SEARO (with Dr Suniti Acharya) with the responsibilities of assessing the needs of adolescent reproductive health in Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Maldives and Srilanka. After returning from SEARO Prof Pratomo assisted the Director of Family Health, MOH to strengthen PKPR/ Adolescent Friendly Health Services at the Puskesmas by developing standard operating procedure and expand the training model in different provinces of Indonesia. During 2015-2018 he was the PI of the Peer/USAID research project the Development of the Referral of LBWI using KMC in Koja and Karawang District Hospitals. The KMC services were disrupted due to Covid-19, however, the Whats App (WA) group among hospital perinatology ward staff and the Puskesmas staff still exist and became the only model referral and communication from secondary and primary health services in the country. All this could be monitored by a mobile phone. Then in 2019 he was awarded a competitive innovative grant from the Ministry of Finance to facilitate both Depok City Health and District hospital to produce a Regulation of Mayor Depok City No. 80/2020. This became an innovation in the country in which a district has a specific regulation concerning Guideline and Implementation of KMC. During the same time he led a team of 20 health personnel to join TOT of Asia Oceania KMC in Manila. He is also the only international KMC trainer for Asia Oceania KMC Network in the country.
